Will my donation be shared with the Diocese of Knoxville? All gifts received for this project will be used exclusively by Holy Ghost for this project. All funds collected will be held in a separate account for this project only. Will the weekly offerings support the campaign? No, this project is above and beyond the operational costs of the parish. The weekly offertory (including building fund) is used to support our normal, ongoing operations. We are asking you to consider a gift or pledge in addition to your weekly gift.
Who will be asked to contribute? Holy Ghost Parishioners and friends of Holy Ghost. Every gift amount is greatly appreciated.
Is Holy Ghost worth supporting? Holy Ghost has been a holy place of comfort for 118 years, providing the great gift of the sacraments, countless opportunities for spiritual growth while nurturing our love of God, and a place to also nurture friendships made.
Is there a minimum gift or pledge? No, all gifts are needed and welcome! We just ask you to pray about what is right for you to give.
What is the nature and proposed scope of the project? The project goal is to rejuvenate the old, vacant church on the parish property and transform it into a Parish Center, also moving the offices from the rectory to this remodeled space, preserving our history. Why is this project necessary? Holy Ghost has grown from 500 families to over 1,100 families in the last five years and currently does not have enough meeting and ministry space. Moving the parish office out of the rectory to the new parish life center also provides privacy and separate space for our parish priests. What is the estimated project completion date? Completion is likely April 2027.
The plans include: · Complete restoration of the interior and exterior of old church originally dedicated in 1908. This will add 8,800 square feet of meeting and office space to the campus. · The first floor will have bathrooms added, office space for parish staff, a small kitchen, with the remainder being one large 2,000 square foot hall for events, and an altar for other liturgical events. · All electronics (printer, routers, phone switch, security camera management equipment, etc.) will also be moved from the rectory to the new space in an IT room on the second floor. Current office furniture, cabinets and equipment will be moved to and used in the new space . · The second floor was previously (mostly) gutted, but the studs for the walls from the original Holy Ghost School are still in place. So the second floor will leverage the old school layout and have five separate large meeting/class rooms, two priest offices, a deacon office and two bathrooms. · An extra set of stairs and an elevator leading to both floors will be built into and tied into the parish center. · The crawl space and under the first floor will be filled in with gravel and concrete to form a concrete slab floor in the renovated structure. The basement area under the north side will be retained for storage. · The space will be decorated with Holy Ghost historical images and pictures across time. · The roofs on the new old and new churches will be replaced and the (new) church belltower will be repaired.
