Holy Ghost is home to several choirs, which sing at English, Spanish, and Latin Masses.
Do you love to sing? Consider joining one of our choirs! We’re actively seeking singers of all voice parts, especially those who read music.
Please contact Mary with questions or comments about our choirs or music program.
English Mass choir
Cantate Domino is the choir for the 10 a.m. Sunday Mass, and it rehearses on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the St. Cecilia (choir) room downstairs.
We sing English chant, Gregorian chant, hymns, and other sacred choral music in English and Latin.
Latin Mass choir
The Latin Mass choir sings for the Mass celebrated every Sunday at noon and on various high feasts. This choir rehearses on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the St. Cecilia room.
We sing the Gregorian chant propers, polyphonic selections from the Church’s treasury of sacred music, and chant hymns, as well as a vernacular (English) hymn after Mass.
This music varies greatly according to level of difficulty, and those who would like to join this choir are not expected to have immediate mastery of all levels.
New members will begin by singing the ordinary (i.e., Kyrie, Gloria, Agnus, Sanctus, Ite) plus the Marian chant hymn and English hymn sung after Mass.
Over time, they can advance to the polyphonic music sung after Communion and to the simpler Gregorian chant propers (Communio, Introit).
Eventually, they can master the more complex propers (Gradual, Alleluia, Offertory).
Spanish-language choir
Sung Mass in Spanish is celebrated every Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
